An illustrated digitally-printed and perfect bound book, created during preparation for Laura’s MA Sculpture Degree show at the Royal College of Art.
Throughout the degree show exhibition, at various intervals, the installation was activated by performance, including daily readings of chapters from this book. The book, which is 111 pages long, was compiled in the lead up the the exhibition and completed in situ within the installation. Laura wrote, edited and illustrated in between readings and meeting with visitors. The text was very much influenced by these conversations and interactions, which often centred on shared experiences of feeling silenced, oppressed, enraged, freed, ecstatic – in other words, sensations of feeling (metaphorically) headless through these different encounters of losing control.
In 2019 Laura experimented with the format of the work, releasing the chapters as individual vignettes, in the form of zines, which she sold at zine fairs and festivals including Sheffield Zine Fest, Grrrl Zine Fair and DIY Space For London Summer Zine Fair. She is looking to publish a small run of the book as an entire text, at an affordable price, if you can help, please get in touch by email.
